Bastian carvings have almost become synonymous with the Greater Swiss Mountain Dog Club of America National Specialties. This year's piece by Bastian features a Swissy pulling a cart laden with barrels along with the breed's founding father, Prof. Albert Heim. The polychromed piece measures 12" long, 9" high, 6" wide. The base is made from long leaf yellow pine that was originally milled as a heavy timber (circa 1910), around the time Heim recognized the breed. It has been recycled here to celebrate this year's National Specialty. |
Other carvings associated with National Specialties include
auction pieces: the "The Musicians of Wumelsdorf" winning bid by Jane Garvey,
"Santa and Sleigh with eight Swissies (reindeer)" winning bid by Elizabeth Finson (Atterberry). "National Specialty Stud Dog Class Challenge Trophy" donated by Lori Price
features a carving of her beloved "Rio". And last, but surely not least, the
coveted "Best of Breed Challenge Trophy" donated by Skip and Karen Conant
featuring two-time winning National Specialty Best of Breed
"NEWT".

This is tax deductible, right? ;-)
We still would like to have this. We have many pieces of fine art and would love to add this beautiful piece to our dog collection.
